Hawaii - 15th September - to - 26th September, 2023.

The last photos of our holiday.

PT doing his DC’s

One of the hotels we walk past has beautiful lawns and gardens, they have these signs out for your dogs.

A week ago we got the bus out to the Valley of  the Temples memorial park. As soon as we were going over the hills we left the sunny day behind on the south coast. This is common,  we usually see a cloud build up over the mountains when we are having our afternoon swim but it stays up there and doesn’t come down to the Waikiki beaches. Always sunny down there but we have had a couple of 10min showers go over us in the month we have been here.

Very cloudy, when we arrived, the clouds were covering the tops of the mountains but it’s slowly trying to clear. These mountains always fascinate me. I love how steep they are, just go straight up. Can’t climb up these ones.

Walking up to the big temple. It’s a memorial park and the grounds are beautifully looked after. Graves dotted all over the lawns.

Crossing over the bridge to the lake to see this amazing temple.

As we got across the bridge we could go over and pull the rope back  and let the ball go and it struck the drum and made a loud boom…. They say to do this before entering the temple to get rid of all your negativity and bring in all the positives

Looking over the little lake to the temple.

Walked through to see the Buddha

The stream entering into the lake another bridge we crossed over. Some big fish.

Now walking back down  through the memorial park through the graveyards back to catch the bus back to Waikiki. As there was a MacDonalds across the road we had a chocolate milkshake for lunch.

Looking back up to the mountains.

A couple days later went back into Honolulu to another small market to stock up on fresh veggies .  Not the Chinese markets we went to shortly after we arrived here.

Leaving tomorrow so a few last photos to say goodbye to Hawaii.
Above photo our Hotel behind the lagoon with the turquoise trim. The hotels in the centre of the picture are part of the Hilton complex which is large. About six or seven towers all up. To get to our swimming beach on the right we have to walk from our hotel, around the lagoon, where kids like swimming, over to the ocean beach on the right. Diamond Head far right. We have climbed that twice in the past but couldn’t do it now. 😩

Our swimming beach which is 1km walk from our Hotel there and back.  We swim everyday.

Our hotel on left, the Y shape one. We walk around  the lagoon to the ocean where we swim

Taken in the morning. Zoomed in to get a closer look of Ala Moana beach park also known as Magic  Island.

Looking into the late afternoon sun

Last photos looking across the Boat Harbour.

Last nights sunset 🌅

Different cloud formation.

Time to say goodbye to Hawaii once again. We said before we left this might be our last trip up here but never say never. We are already talking about maybe coming back but not sure when. It’s been another great holiday. Although it’s the same old things we do we really enjoy going walking every morning whether we go through the Ala Moana shopping centre or pick up supplies at the supermarkets which is often, as we can only buy what we can walk back with or we might hop on a bus and go further afield for a day trip. Always love it up here, so hope to get back some day. Tomorrow we will leave the hotel at 9.30am,  although knowing PT it will be earlier 🤔. Our flight leaves about 1.00pm arriving in Auckland about 9.10pm. Although the last few flights arriving in Auckland have been about half hour late.

Hawaii, 9th September - 14th September, 2023

Our coverage for this last week.

Sun just disappearing over the horizon from our balcony.

Full sunset

Close up full sunset

Relaxing watching the last of the sunset as it goes down.

Large Lolly shop in the Ala Moana centre. Kids would go mad here. I didn’t go in just stood at the door. The shop is way bigger than what shows in the photo. I went here looking for the massive kitchen shop that was here. Must have struggle through Covid as it is no longer. It was a great shop.

Above and below are the Hilton Hotel Friday night fireworks display on the beach where we swim. The  Friday night show is every Friday at 8.00pm has been going for as long as we know. Years.

Just another day in paradise

At the beginning of the week we took the No. 67 bus over to  Kailua on the windward side on the east coast. What a lovely area we have never been out there. So neat, clean and tidy. Above, the gardens outside of this eating place.

Just walked out of the town centre heading down to see the beach.

Passing lovely town houses with neat and tidy gardens.

After quite a long very hot walk out of town we arrived at Kailua Beach. What a great area and a beautiful beach. Nice trade winds blowing in which relieved us from the hot streets we had just walked through to get here. Some of these photos haven’t come out too sharp, all a bit cloudy. I was wondering if my bag was so hot that my hot phone affected it. Looking north along the beach.

Looking south. With the trade winds makes it a very popular beach with the wind surfers.

There was some shade under the trees so sat down after our hot walk after melting to watch the action. Just beautiful.

Some more sunsets during the week.

This is the nearest canal to us  which brings all the water down to the sea from the mountains up behind Waikiki. Its half way between our hotel and Ala Moana centre hence we cross it many times on our morning walks to pick up supplies, or just wandering around the shops.

Here we are waiting for the cross lights. The main intersection just along from the hotel.  These are the buses we use if too far to walk called The Bus. Great service and just $1.25 for seniors per ride to go as far as you like on any route you like. I think that fare is more for the locals but they have always let us in. Hotel in the middle is the Ilikai from street view. This shows the Y shape it is. The right wing is the seaward side going out which is the stork of the Y. The two wings on the street side are the two top wings of the Y shape.

Across from our hotel standing around the Boat Harbour looking back at our building. The red circle on the left is where we are. On the right is where we were last year. This is the side we have been on over several years. The left is where we used to go when we first came up here. Decided to give it another go here this year a bit of a different outlook more looking straight out to sea. The right side looks more down and along the coast.

A night shot looking down over our balcony.

Many of the Japanese couples come to the Ilikai to get married. Taken just outside the pool area. They usually then go down on the beach for more photos.

This is the beach where we swim in front of the Hilton complex.

This is the Lagoon we walk around to get to the swimming beach in above photo. Our Hotel is behind me. The beach is over behind the far palm trees, you can just see the sea in the distance. The lagoon is very popular with the little kids.
